Élysée Collective has welcomed Australian artist and illustrator Sara Winfield, known for her whimsical, pastel hued, fantastical beings interpreted through her paintings and large scale drawings.

After studying art through school and with a distinctive focus on textiles and garment construction, Sara pursued her career ambitions with tertiary study in Fashion and Textile Design. It was there that she realized her love for design and illustration, leaving her course upon encouragement by her tutors to pursue her profession as an artist.

Entranced with line and colour, Sara’s artworks are in a way, an extension of her self, inspired by internal feelings and emotions, ultimately creating the founding subject of her work.

Driven by the personal ambition to be happy and to always be constantly creating, the artist channels her creative energies into her works, featuring her signature doe eyed girls with large watery eyes, white hair and big pouty mouths, each filled with the same female energy that extends from the artist herself.

Working in a flat, illustrative way, with a combination of artistic mediums including acrylic paints, pure pigment inks, markers and pastels, Sara’s art involves mostly intricate line work, employing techniques including paint pouring, squishing and textural aspects, as well as drawing with shapes or negative space.

Since founding her label as an artist in 2012, Sara has achieved a selection of milestones including holding two solo exhibitions, a joint show with artist Anya Brock, received a commission at 140Perth, and has created artwork for model and interiors blogger Rebecca Judd.

2014 will see Sara launch her eponymous swimwear label, a natural extension for the artist, where her illustrations play the hero within each piece.

Sara Winfield’s artworks and prints are available through commission or her online store –, with exhibitions planned for late 2014.
